If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have a decent sense of how much I enjoy putting fat in my coffee. The idea here (which I learned about from Dave Asprey and Bulletproof Coffee) is that by including healthy fats with caffeine balances out the extreme spike and crash that some people can feel. For me, a cup of coffee with butter and coconut oil provides SUCH brain clarity – all those healthy fats are SUPER SUPPORTIVE or brain function, and when paired with a little caffeine, I mean, its game time!
I wrote a post all about healthy fats last week, so make sure to check it out if you’re still scared of eating fats.
Ok. So combine my love of healthy fats AND coffee WITH a great new product that I just received from THRIVE MARKET – and we have “‘Bulletproofed’ Chocolate Mushroom Coffee”.
You will need:
1 cup freshly brewed organic coffee
1 packet instant mushroom coffee (from Four Sigma Foods)
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1/4 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon grass fed butter
1 teaspoon REAL maple syrup
1/8 cup nut milk (or however much you prefer)
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Place al ingredients in a blender and blend for 5-10 seconds, until smooth and frothy!
So why would you want to include mushrooms in your coffee?
Mushrooms are incredibly medicinal to the body – they boost the immune system and have been shown to significantly decrease the likelihood of cancers when consumed on a regular basis. In my mind, it’s great to get them in wherever you can, even in your morning coffee!
Pair the power of mushrooms with all of the other super-powered foods in this drink, and you are getting in a HUGE dose of nutrients first thing in the morning!
Cinnamon – fights inflammation and balances blood sugar
Raw cacao – loaded with antioxidants and magnesium
Coconut oil – supports a healthy brain, fights inflammation and is nutrient dense
Grass-fed butter – packed with nutrients and is a HEALTHY fat!
Organic coffee – provides disease prevention, antioxidants and can be a wonderful ritual.
So… Are you going to try it!? Let me know what you think!
