Bits of Sunshine

Bits of May Sunshine

I really can’t believe that the month of May has already come to an end… I mean, does anyone else feel that way?  Where did this month go!?

I guess there has been a lot going on this month – I mean, we did pack up our entire apartment in FL and drive back to NY (I am still wondering how we accumulated so much stuff!).  Moving is quite the experience, as you might already know, but for some reason when it comes down to it, it’s amazing how capable and efficient we can become when we put our minds to it.  There was a point that I felt totally overwhelmed by all of the things that had to be done and furniture that had to be moved, but by taking it a step at a time, focusing on one room or project, it all got done!  Sure, it feels like quite the blur, but I am still amazed at the power of focus, patience and dedication (life lesson learned).

Looking back over the month of May, it is safe to say that I fell passionately in love with a few different beverages (as you will find out below) – guess I was committed to staying hydrated with all the hard work that was going on…

Vanilla Protein Smoothievanilla protein smoothie

For me, this smoothie is the perfect blend of greens, fruit, protein, flavor and spunk!  I have been enjoying it in the mornings when I know I have a busy day ahead of me because it fills me up more then a typical green smoothie and I know it will keep me nourished and energized for a longer period of time.

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or homemade cashew milk)

1 handful of spinach

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 tablespoon almond butter

1 banana

1 scoop Sunwarrior Vanilla Protein Powder

1 tablespoon hemp seeds

A handful of ice cubes

Water to blend

The Sunwarrior protein powder has quickly become one of my favorites. The powders are plant based and raw, the company is working towards becoming USDA organic certified, and they are “Food Babe approved.”
I have had and enjoyed both the vanilla and chocolate flavors, and I am looking forward to trying their natural flavor.

everyday detox tea

EveryDay Detox Tea

This obsession began while doing the Awaken Your Health cleanse at the beginning of the month, and I have not stopped drinking it!  Dandelion is such a magical herb, especially when it comes to cleansing and detoxing the body (it strengthens and supports liver function), but its flavor can often be a bit bitter and intense.  This blend by Traditional Medicinals balanced the bitterness of dandelion root by using flavorful herbs that also encourage healthy function of the liver.

Interested in trying it!?  I will soon be organizing a giveaway of this tea to 1 lucky winner!  I will send out details soon, so keep a look out!

Coconut Water

How did I ever survive without raw coconut water?  I just love this stuff!  It is the perfect way to quench your thirst (filled with beneficial enzymes and electrolytes), and is also the perfect addition to any smoothie/juice! coconut water

Although there are many different brands out there, my favorite is Harmless Harvest because it is RAW – which means it has all of the healing and nutritional benefits that come from a real, live coconut!  Other brands are typically processed, and most of them are filled with unwanted preservatives and inflammatory sugars – so make sure to read ingredient lists!

The Miracle of Mindfulnessthe-miracle-mindfulness-a-manual-meditation

Funny thing – I am not exactly sure how this book came into my life (I don’t remember ordering it or receiving it as a gift) but one day, I noticed it on my bookshelf and pulled it down to read.  I instantly fell in love with Thich Nhat Hanh’s simple and beautiful words.  Funny enough, will all the craziness in my life over the past month, this book really came to me at the perfect time.  He speaks of meditation, slowing down, practicing mindfulness, and really being in and appreciating each moment as it is.  Ahhhhhh…  This book offered me some serious relief over this past month and some wonderful techniques in moving forward.  This will be a book that I continually refer back to when I am needing some calming words of wisdom.

So this Lorde song has been basically rocking my face off.  That is all.

I will be in NY for the next 6 months, so if you are in the area, make sure to check out my upcoming workshops – I would love to see you!

with love and bits of inspiration,
